The Architecture of Effort takes a highly cynical, deeply witty look at how technology replaces slow, agonizing human intent with instant, modular convenience. This portrait print pays homage to the historic Welsh tradition of the Love Spoon—where an artisan spent weeks hand-carving interlocking chains, locks, and hearts out of a single piece of timber to create an unbreakable token of affection.

This modern revision reimagines the heirloom as a sterile, 3D-printed plastic device. Presented as a clean, technical assembly manual on blueprint paper, the artwork breaks the spoon down into separate, clip-on plastic elements—complete with modular keypad lock widgets and snap-on heart panels. Flanked by columns of raw G-code on the left and automated instruction arrows on the right, it is a brilliant, thought-provoking visual monument that asks: are we still building relationships, or are we just following the assembly instructions?
